Meatball Appetizers

1 pound ground beef

2 cups white bread that is torn into small pieces

1 package dry onion soup

1 egg...slightly beaten

1 Tablespoon dried parsley flakes

Meatball Sauce (recipe follows)

In a mixing bowl, put in all ingredients EXCEPT saice. Shape mixture into 1 inch balls. Arrange balls in a 9 x 13 inch pan. Make sauce.

Sauce:

1 cup catsup

1/3 cup lemon juice

1/3 cup Grape jelly

Blend together sauce ingredients. Pour over meat balls. Bake at 350* for about 45 minutes, or until meatballs are done. Drain if needed. This will make about 4 dozen meatballs. Put meatballs on a serving platter. Insert toothpicks to serve.

Can these be done in a crockpot?

Hey LilBit, sounds good, grape jelly does work in many things, like bbq sauce, which we finally figured out how Twin Anchors, a rib place here in ChiTown (that Sinatra always ordered from) did their sauce, the lines form for blocks before 5:00pm! Best ribs ever

I'd do them in a crock pot, but I would brown the meatballs first and use the crock pot as a means to heat them up.

I am a born and raised Chicagoan. Where is Twin Anchors located? I am a part time resident of the southwest suburb but, lived in Chicago proper until my late 30's. DH worked downtown.

Thanks! I thought I had had these at a party and they were in a crockpot.

Those do work in a crock pot (if as has been said earlier) browned first.

I have a similar recipe we got from a caterer--it uses potato grated into the meat to hold it together, and cranberry sauce in the tomato bbq sauce. This is always a huge hit at parties.

Another variation on meatballs in crockpot is to brown them and cook in any marinara (ie Paul Newman's) and then have little slider rolls for people to make mini meatball subs.

Hi Gooday (waving at you)! I was raised on the south side until we moved to the south suburbs in '69. We live in NW Indiana now and DH works in the city...quite a commute for him everyday.
