I learned how to make bread from my grandmother and I made it using her recipe for years. I bake quite often and do not use a bread maker. I bought one and used it once and then gave it away. I just didn't like the texture of the bread. There are a lot of recipes for bread at the king arthur flour website. I only use KAF for baking.

i like bob's red mill flour too. i also add vital whear gleuton to my dough. it really does a good job. but i can't make bread as my mother and grandmother did. they could whip up a batch of bread in no time flat and have everyone begging for some of it. grandma did it on a coal stove at times.

@shortbreadlover wrote:i picked up a huge marble slab at the local thrift store and it is so nice to knead bread dough on. i used to do in the stand mixer but this works just as well.
the marble slab was a real find because it is 18"18" and not a crack in it. i called a few places that sell marble and a pice this size would be over $100.00
DH has a large slab of marble. I don't care anything about kneading bread so he does it. LOL!!!
They have a place east of town that installs granite, marble etc. You can buy the smaller left over pieces they have for not much money. They will cut it down to the size you want & smooth the edges.

the marble stores here charge a very high price fr pices of marble with polished edges. i think it is because they know that people will buy. wheni say a ver high price, i mean over $150.oo for a bread board size piece

I could probably make this bread since no kneading is involved. Not interested in kneading dough.
We make bread, rolls, hamburger buns. I put all the stuff in the bread machine so DH can finish it when he gets home from work. LOL!!!

Here you go everyone, have fun. She is a great teacher, I think he is really into bread! One little tip get the flour for bread making. I like Bobs red Mill artisan flour. However you dont have to, you can use regular flour. I like the fast yeast and the flour depends on what I have available.

@shortbreadlover wrote:that is a lot of bread to make. did you knead it by hand?
@shortbreadlover the initial mix and first knead was in a Kitchen Aid mixer, but the second kneading and shaping was done by hand.
