I always do a veggie dip with crudites and fruit. But I struggle to find something interesting as an addition. Since the meal is so heavy, I don't want to do shrimp or some kind of flat bread. The other hurdle is I have one oven, so it won't be available. My brother and family are driving from Baltimore, and we just never know when they will show up. Any ideas?

Maybe some spiced nuts ? There are many recipes if you google.

@QVCkitty1 Thanks! My SIL often does something with nuts, but I had not thought of them. I have herbs on the patio, so maybe I can do something with them. I would have to roast them ahead of time, but they don't have to be warm, right?

I find stuffed mushrooms to be tasty. I love the idea of candied pecans.

@deepwaterdotter Can you make them ahead of time, and are they refrigerated or heated?

@PA Mom-mom My family has no Italian ancestry at all but years ago we adopted the antipasto tradition.
Cold antipasto can be an assortment of olives, cheeses, pepperoncini, marinated mushrooms, artichokes, giardinera, a variety of pickles, pickled onions, prosciutto and/or hard salami.
Pretty effortless, can be made ahead, and keeps well sitting out at room temperature for whenever guests arrive.
I'm sure whatever you provide will make your guests happy, especially this year after all that has been endured for so many months.

My recipe for 24 mushrooms can be refrigerated up until baking in oven:
24 mushroom caps (stems twisted off and discarded)
8 oz softened cream cheese
1/3 cup grated Parmesan
2 scallions, finely chopped
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
Shredded Parmesan for topping
Mix cream cheese, scallions, pepper, onion and garlic powders, and grated Parmesan in bowl until thick and creamy.
Fill mushroom caps with cheese mixture.
Spray 9x13" baking dish with PAM and arrange filled mushrooms in dish.
Sprinkle with shredded Parmesan.
Bake in 350 degree oven until piping hot, about 20 minutes (25-30 minutes if assembled and refrigerated before serving).

@aroc3435 WELL, that sounds like a complete meal right there! I love antipasto! Probably won't do charcuterie, but the olives and pickled veggies can follow us to the table. Thanks!
