I use the McCormick brand sold at the grocery store.  This recipe was given to me by a co-worker.  I have made it and find it tasty over rice:

1 onion, chopped

1 tbsp chopped ginger

2 tsp minced garlic

1 tbsp olive oil

2 tsp garam masala

1 tsp chili powder

1 tsp cardamom

1/2 tsp coriander

6-oz can tomato paste

2 cups chicken broth

1/2 cup half-and-half

1 1/2 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into 3/4" pieces

1/2 tsp pepper

1 tsp salt

3 tbsp butter

Saute onion and ginger in olive oil until onions are clear.  Stir in garlic, garam masala, chili powder, cardamom, and coriander for a minute. 

Puree mixture in blender with tomato paste and chicken broth until smooth.  Pour back into skillet and stir in half-and-half. 

Bring to simmer and stir in chicken, salt, and pepper.  Simmer until chicken is cooked and sauce is slightly thickened.

Stir butter into sauce until melted.

@timeless , I checked the ingredients on my bottle and it says spices including 

coriander, black pepper, cumin, cardamom. and cinnamon.

If you have a Sprouts grocery store in your area, they sell spices in bulk. Buy as little or as much as you want and they are usually a great deal!

Ingredients in Penzey's Garam Masala is Hand-mixed from: coriander, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, kalonji, caraway, cloves, ginger and nutmeg.

This is the kind I use too! It adds so much flavor to everything. It is featured heavily in Indian cooking which I love! ❤️
