Hi All

I was wondering if you all have any recipes or ideas. I was thinking of putting it in some pasta alfredo (I have a frozen bag in the freezer-you just have to heat it on top of the stove) but would like to give it a little something. I have frozen shrimp but can I just put it in the pasta when I cook it, or should I heat a little olive oil and maybe a few red pepper flakes before adding it to the pasta? I follow a recipe but when it comes to thinking outside the box, I am a little challenged!

Thanks everyone!!

Thaw it, dry it off very very well and put some spices on it and grill it!  WONDERFUL!

Look up recipes for: shrimp and grits, jambalaya, gumbo, etouffe, and such.  Shrimp is easy to cook with and it doesn't take long.  DO NOT overcook.

Shrimp remoulade salad is wonderful!  Make your own dressing for it.  Recipes abound!

Shrimp makes excellent Asian sitr frys, which you can do in a wok or skillet and use as many or as few ingredients as you like.

I don't have specific recipes, because I just know how to make all these things.  Have fun with it and put in the dishes the things you like!

Re: Ideas to use frozen shrimp

Depends on what size shrimp

I know you said frozen but were they frozen raw or cooked?

If you have a favorite chicken salad recipe, substitute cooked shrimp for chicken.

I agree it's good in a stir fry, it goes in last, depending on size shrimp only takes a couple of minutes.

If the shrimp is cooked, it can go in any recipe at the last minute just to get it warm.

You can do an old fashioned boil type dinner, with corn on the cob & maybe sausage & small red potatoes.    Find a recipe for a simple shrimp creole over rice.

Shrimp is a great, healthy protein.   Almost anyway you would eat a protein, you can substitute shrimp

I think spices used is the secret.  Sprinkle your choice of -( pan fry or bake) - curry, paprika, garlic powder of course - Asian spices - lemon juice - or an Italian selection.

Can also be used in a cold mac salad with celery, onions, cooked peas.  Great for summer

I'll add small frozen shrimp to the bag of Shrimp Broccoli Alfredo I buy from Schwans. I also add extra broccoli because I don't like the meal to be runny.

Maybe mix it with some stir fry vegetables and soy sauce if you like that type of thing.

I am going to defrost some frozen shrimp tomorrow, chop it up and use it to make Egg Foo Young.

Re: Ideas to use frozen shrimp

I make shrimp Alfredo with cheese tortellini    I cook the tortellini, drain, and add Alfredo  sauce, shrimp ( precooked and thawed with shells removed) and some steamed broccoli.

Also, put on a skewer and marinade and grill.

Coconut shrimp...yummm

Shrimp cocktail

Add to a garden salad

I always have a couple of bags in my freezer for a quick meal.

Re: Ideas to use frozen shrimp

I use uncooked frozen shrimp to supplement frozen meals all the time such as shrimp scampi. One of the major brands in the Northeast is Bertolli, Thaw the shrimp in cold water and allow to drain on a paper towel lined plate in the fridge until you are ready to prepare your Alfredo. Add the shrimp in the last 2 to 3 minutes of cooking time if it is uncooked and just a minute to warm if precooked.

Re: Ideas to use frozen shrimp

If your shrimp were frozen raw, you will have to allow them to defrost so you will be able to shell them.  After taking off their shells (if you are going to use them in a pasta dish) briefly sauté them in some olive oil and garlic.  They key here is not to overlook as they cook very quickly.

They are delicious in a quick red sauce made of crushed tomatoes.   Sauté your shrimp in 3 TBS of olive oil and three cloves of chopped garlic.  Remove shrimp when pink (3-5 min) and set aside. To the same pan (without cleaning)  stir in a can of crushed tomatoes, some basil and a pinch of sugar.  Throw in some capers or olives if you have them.  Simmer for 20 minutes.  Add shrimp into sauce and cook for one minute.  Serve over pasta.
