ISO: a bread machine recipe that does not taste like cake

Can anyone help? I have purchsed a brand new Cuisinart bread machine, but every recipe I try (according to my DH) tastes more like cake than bread. Since he is an avid bread consumer, I decided to make bread at home. So far, the results do not duplicate store-bought which is becoming very expensive. Any tried and true recipes you would like to share? TIA
