I buy Sara Lee pound cake but never Angel Food cake (yuck) for Strawberry Shortcake.

@Misscindy...we love shortcake as well as strawberry pie at our house.

I have always used the bisquick recipe for the cake....I bake it just before we are ready to eat so it is very fresh.

Generally I am a scratch baker but we really like the bisquick.  We are not fans of the sponge type cake. 

I made a strawberry pie earlier this week and used a shortbread recipe for the crust it was good, I might try that recipe again but our favorite is shortcake.  I hope you find something you like.

Sara Lee butter pound cake...sliced about 1/2" thick, fresh whipped cream (sweetened) and the best basket(s) of strawberries you can find!  I wash, slice and marinate berries in a bowl with sugar...then build - pound cake, strawberries and cream...a couple of layers on each plate...love it!  Also make Biscuits from Bisquick mix, delicious as well...NEVER a complaint to date🙆
