Help! Question About Fresh Ground Pepper

When a recipe calls for freshly ground pepper, does that usually mean just plain black pepper?

I'm buying a pepper mill for the first time and need to know what kind of pepper corns to buy. I looked on Amazon and they have all kinds of mixed pepper corns, as well as black.

Please advise me as to what I should buy for everyday use.
