Does anyone have a tried and true ham salad recipe they could share.  My sister is coming to visit and it is one of her favorite things.  She has had a rough year and I am trying to make all her favorite things.  I personally have never made it.  I googled it but who knows if they are really good or not.

Thanks so much.

Re: Ham Salad recipe please!!!

ham, sweet relish and mayo . I don't think this one needs a recipe just mix it up. You need a meat grinder. They usually sell this at the grocery store deli counter all made up.

I make it easily like this, too, but add mustard, black pepper and maybe some dill pickles.

I throw smoked ham slices from a spiral ham with everything else into my food processor with the chopping blade. (My food processor is so old, it's a GE and once in a great while, I see mine on the back counter of a kitchen scene on Golden Girls when I'm flipping channel to channel.)

Re: Ham Salad recipe please!!!

I make mine as follows:

diced ham

diced celery

diced gherkins (or sweet pickle relish)

shredded cheddar cheese

mayonnaise

I'm sorry I can't give you amounts; I just use my judgement.  I love this salad on a soft potato roll or rye bread.

By the way, that's so nice of you to be making your sisters favorite things for her!  I hope she feels comforted after her visit with you.

Re: Ham Salad recipe please!!!

Meat Grinder or the grinder attachment for a Kitchenaid

Ham (no fat or tendons)      Deli ham is not preferred although acceptable

Pickle Relish   (grind in with the ham)

Mayo

You can also add a small amount of bologna too and that's considered sandwich spread then.

I may add a 1/4 t garlic powder and 1/4 t onion powder but only a small amount for a change in flavor.

@coconut1818

I put ham into food processor for a rough chop.  I add diced celery, sliced green onion, chopped dill pickle, diced red bell pepper and mix.  Dress with mayo mixed with some Dijon mustard.  Salt and pepper to taste.

THIS ONE!

Well, almost.

A few years back, I suddenly wanted ham salad which I hadn't eaten since I was a kid. I tried a few different recipes, and found that adding a few hard boiled eggs really makes a difference. It mellows the flavor nicely. You won't even know they're in there!

I threw the eggs & a squirt of mustard into the food processor, pulsed, then added the roughly chopped ham and gave it a few pulses. I stirred in some mayo, sweet pickle relish & a squirt of mustard by hand & that was it.

It's so nice that you're trying to please your sis.

Muddling through...

Re: Ham Salad recipe please!!!

If you have a Heavenly Ham store, they sell an excellent ham salad. I believe they use champagne mustard that is very good.
