@Icegoddesswrote:I don't see why not. However, I doubt you'll get cripsy hot dogs in a crockpot whether you put them on the bottom or top. Hot dogs are fully cooked, so all you're doing is heating them up. With raw meats it's suggest you sear first. They recommend to put food that takes the longest to cook on the bottom, but if you're also using pre-cooked (canned or jarred) saurkraut I don't think it really matters which you put on the bottom as all you're doing is heating up both of them.
Becca Lou wrote: We didn't and no one got ill. But those were the days when it was safe to just grab a hotdog out the package and just eat it cold. Maybe searing first is the way to go. Yeah ! I think I would. Now they don't want you to eat with out cooking them some way.Better save than sorry .![]()

becca lou wrote : I like to just take a hotdog and place sauer kraut in a small sauce pan and cut the hotdog in pieces and cook the hotdog in the juice of the sauerkraut, just for me for a quick lunch, or smoked sausage the same way. I freeze the smoke sausage in foldable small baggies cut up in pieces., or the smoke sauge and then just pull out what I need. And the sauerkraut , open the can section out in mini lock&locks ,uncooked and place inthe freezer and use as needed with the meat. Don't cooked the sauer kraut first and try to save it because it will stink to high heaven, Cook only what you know you consume at one meal. Was alone alot when my husband traveled on his job, my quick dinner or lunch go to for years.

We're not kraut eaters, but with 3 sons, I've fixed a TON of hot dogs (not to mention many years at the baseball concession stand). Hands down, the best hot dogs come straight out of the slow cooker. Into a dry slow cooker drop your choice of hot dogs, put the lid on and cook on low for 2-3 hours. The dogs will cook in their own juices, and you get a nice, plump hot dog with zero work. As they cook, the smell alone will assure you of happy campers! I've found this method of preparation is perfect for kid's parties, or a morning out of town for Mom with men/boys at home in front of the TV. When one of my boys moved to college, he called home for my "Crock Pot Hot Dog" recipe. .

@ScrapHappywrote:Has anyone made hotdogs with sauerkraut in a crockpot? We like hotdogs a little on the crispy side, so I'm thinking the hotdogs would have to directly on the bottom? But, wouldn't the sauerkraut default that? Does the sauerkraut have to be drained first? We'll be having a large neighborhood garage sale this weekend, starting very early and going way past lunch. I'm too far from my kitchen to be going back and forth, but I can leave crockpot in the basement area where it's closer. I thought hotdogs would be easiest but if anyone has any other ideas, I'd welcome that too! TIA!

So very good as a sandwich. We just lost her a few months ago and I thought how fun those get togethers with her were. I sure miss the way life used to be, lost a lot of my relatives, including my sister- in law over the years. too many gone. So very sad.It start in the early 80's and at least 4-5 at a time.Gone.So lonely for those days.
