Right now it's baking in the oven and does the house smell wonderful.
@Kachina624 I got called away as soon as I posted the OP, so here's the recipe. It's from an America's Test Kitchen Episode Season 14
Almond Granola with Dried Fruit
1/3 cup maple syrup
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
4 teasp vanilla extract
1/2 teasp salt
1/2 cup veg oil
5 cups old fashioned oats ( not instant) I use whatever I have
2 cups almonds, chopped coarse (again, whatever I have -- I use sliced almonds)
2 cups raisins or other dried fruit, chopped
1. Adjust oven rack to upper middle position and heat to 325 degrees. Line rimmed baking sheet (12.5x17.5) with parchment paper or foil.
2. Whisk maple syrup, brown sugar, vanilla and salt in large bown. Whisk in oil. Fold in oats and almonds until throughly coated.
3. Transfer oat mixture to baking sheet and spread across sheet to thin, even layer. Using stiff metal spatula, compress oat mixture until very compact. Bake until lightly browned, 40-to 45 minutes, rotating pan once halfway through baking Remove granola from oven and cool on wire rack to room temp about 1 hour. Break cooled granola into pieces of desired size. Stir in dried fruit. Store in airtight container and will keep for about 2 weeks.
Makes about 9 cups

@Kachina624 If you would like a granola recipe, I'll share mine.
My children grew up eating this , as I have been making it since the 70's.
Granola
Preheat oven to 250 degrees. I line large broiler pan with aluminum foil. It makes cleanup easier.
You could use a large roasting pan or baking
sheet with sides.
1) Mix 1/2 cup of honey and 1/4 cup canola oil.
2) Pour over 3 3/4 cups of oats. Mix and spread evenly
over foil covered pan.
3) Bake at 250 for 50 -60 minutes, stirring every 15
minutes.
I like to add seeds and fruit after baking, so they don't get
dried out.
4) I add 1/4 cup raw sunflower seeds and 1/2 cup raisins.
Cool and store in air tight container.
You can add whatever nuts or dried fruits that you like.
Some people add coconut.

here is the one i make each week. preheat oven to 350 degrees.
1 tablespoon coconut oil. spread on 9x13 sheet pan with spatula
Place 2 cups old fashioned oats onto sheet pan
Add 2 tablespoons maple syrup. using spatula turn oats until syrup is absorbed
add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (just shake on liberally). add 1/4 teaspoon salt.
bake 20 minutes
reduce heat to 300 degrees
add 2/3 cup nuts. i use walnuts and sliced almonds.
bake 20 more minutes.
remove from oven.
add 1/2 cup dried fruit. i use cherries and cranberries.
when cool break up walnuts and snip fruits if large.
in two hours when fully cooled store granola in glass jars
most mornings, i have a parfait with equal parts (1/3 cup) blueberries, plain greek yogurt sprinkled with cinnamon, and granola.

@mizree. @Enufstuff. Thanks for the recipes. It sounds like you could have some fun and get really creative. I've never made granola but love to eat it. It's very expensive.

@Kachina624 You are very welcome. You are so right about the cost of granola. That is why I started making it for my five children. It is very easy to make.
I like making my own, then you can customize what you put in it. I personally don't like nuts in it. It is not a snack for me, I like it for breakfast, as a cereal. I have 1/2 cup with milk.

@coffee drinker. Thanks for the recipe. It's somewhat different from the others. I'm going to make myself a batch with the basics plus all of my favorite things.

@Kachina624 I really do hope you try this recipe and let us know what you think. FYI -- I always add a tad more of the wet ingredients.
