This is an Oldie.. Posted by: Susan In Texas

Godfather Casserole

1-1/2 lbs. ground chuck - 2 jars Spaghetti sauce ( I use 4 cheese, but you can use what you prefer)

2 cups sour cream ( or more if you prefer) 1 pkg. 8 oz. cream cheese - 1 lg. pkg. egg noodles - 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded.

Brown beef & drain. Add spaghetti sauce, season to taste & simmer for just a little while. Boil egg noodles according to pkg. directions. I use the extra wide noodles. In a separate bowl, mix the cream cheese & sour cream. When the noodles are done, drain & put into the bottom of a 9X13" baking dish.

I use a glass pyrex sprayed with Pam. on top of noodles spread sour cream/ cream cheese mixture, then pour the ground beef/ spaghetti sauce mixture, Put in oven at 350* & bake until it's bubbly around the edges. top with the 2 cups of cheese & bake until the cheese melts. I serve with a salad & garlic bread.

This recipe looks a lot like my Noodle Bake.  I love it and it reheats on a plate easily in the microwave.

Noodle Bake

2 lbs. high quality ground beef

1 ½ tsp garlic

2 14.5 oz cans tomato sauce

1  12 oz  pkg  medium egg noodles

1 Tbsp butter, plus 2 Tbsp.

1 16 oz sour cream

1 lg softened cream cheese

Optional: 2 Tbsp. chives

In large skillet, brown and well drain ground beef.

Add tomato sauce, and garlic and simmer about 20 minutes .

Butter 3 qt casserole and place a side.

In bowl, mix sour cream and softened cream cheese.

(I use my hand mixer).

Hand stir chives in.

Cook egg noodles aldente with oil in the water to prevent clumping.

Drain and toss lightly with 2 tbsp butter.

In buttered 3 qt casserole layer:

1/2 of the noodles

1/2 of the cheese mixture

1/2 of the meat mixture.

Repeat layers in same order.

Sprinkle with cheddar cheese.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 min.  Cheese may be covered to prevent browning.

May be made a day ahead, refrigerated and cooked for 1 hour.

ECBG, your recipe is like the casserole I posted.

I love easy dishes, now that it is getting cooler outside.

I just pulled out the ingredients to make a crunchy hamburger casserole. Pretty much like the two recipes posted here, but it gets topped with French's fried onions. Autumn is starting soon and we like to eat casseroles on cooler evenings.

@YouGoGirl1, Susan had a few more comments in her post. She had lost the recipe and was in a panic but found it and reposted.

When my son was in high school, his friends would come over every time we had this because it was everyone's favorite, when he went into the Marine Corps his wife had to learn to make it and they shared it all over the country wherever they were posted at the time. Now they are all back here in Texas and my grandkids have gotten their friends into Godfather, so now they all request that whenever they are all around. You can substitute low fat sour cream, cream cheese, and mozzarella cheese if you want. This is easily doubled, but when I double it, I bake it in a large metal pan, it's probably about a 11 X 15 size pan maybe, not sure on the size.
