I have had this recipe since 1964 and make the cookies for special celebrations and for Christmas. These tiny cookies are delicious and worth the effort of rolling out the dough. Can be iced and decorated (icing recipe follows).

Gateau Bonbons

2/3 cup soft butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 pkg.(3 oz.) cream cheese
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. finely grated lemon rind
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. soda
Orange marmalade
Easy Creamy Icing (recipe follows)

Mix first 6 ingredients until light and fluffy. Blend dry ingredients and add to butter mixture. Mix well. Chill the dough.

Heat oven to 350*. Using 1/4 of the dough at a time, (keep remaining dough refrigerated), roll 1/8" thick on lightly floured board. Cut into 1" rounds. Place half on lightly greased cookie sheet. Put 1/4 tsp. marmalade on center of each. Cover with remaining halves of rounds. Seal edges with floured finger. Bake 8-10 minutes. When cool, frost with tinted frosting.
Makes 7 dozen 1" round cookies.

Easy Creamy Icing
1 cups sifted powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla or other flavoring ( I use lemon extract)
1-1/2 Tbsp. cream or water
Food coloring, if desired
