Frozen seafood---yes or no??

This week I tried frozen shrimp-----I LOVE shrimp----I love most seafood, usually I try to buy fresh----well from the grocery case.

But frozen shrimp had me concerned----this was  called colossal size---so about 12 in the package.

First I thawed it out and then dried it well, with paper towels to remove the excess water and moisture---I do that with all meat before I cook it--had some butter melting in the pan with garlic --threw the shrimp in and sauteed it and added a glompWoman Wink----of homemade pesto and a spoonful of cream and finished cooking. Added Rana filled pasta to the mix, a little sprinkle of parm and it was sooo good!!! Shrimp were just done, had a nice texture, not rubbery and was nicely shrimpy. These were de-veined with tails on, BTW. Got them from AMZ fresh too---DD does not like shrimp--so that bag is all mine!!!-

Re: Frozen seafood---yes or no??

Yes, definitely. Prices of frozen seafood are often better and I don't notice loss of quality.  I shop at AZ Fresh too and buy their wild caught pink salmon filets. They're great. I'll take one out, microwave it for @ 2.5 minutes, put on top of a salad. Generally they're @ $7/lb and have 4 filets to a package. Perfect size.

i love your shrimp idea and will have to try it!

Re: Frozen seafood---yes or no??

I'm jealous, @wagirl.  I used to never have a problem with shrimp, ate cold and cooked.  Then a few years back we ate at Red Lobster and I had a reaction.  I followed up with allergy testing and was told the results were inconclusive for shellfish but it would be in my best interest to avoid eating them anymore or carry an EpiPen.  I haven't eaten shrimp or lobster since and that's a bummer.

I'm not a huge fish eater.  I have purchased frozen cod and they cooked up nicely.  I also buy a large package of coho salmon filets from the Costco website a couple of times a year and share it with our family.  It's good too.

@wagirl  Sounds wonderful!! One of my dearest friends owned an upscale restaurant that often had seafood and fish on the specials menu, everyone raved about the freshness of the food. . .it was all frozen.  Her chef always said it's all about the prep. . . I believe he must have been right!

We find thawed shrimp to be delicious sauteed with garlic and a little white wine

I don't eat shrimp of any kind (most come from farms in SE Asia and Central America) but I do eat fish that has been frozen.

Being from Florida .. we used to go down to the docks and you could buy

shrimp right off the boat ... Hate to break it to you .. but we were told

they freeze the shrimp right on the boat ....

Of course Hurricane Iaan took  that away .. the building was actually

blown away ....

I've been married 47 years and have never bought any type of fish for us. Neither of us like it. But I used to buy it for my father in law by the bags. He seemed to enjoy them. He would eat that stuff like popcorn.

@wagirl  Sounds really delicious.  But your "glomp" of pesto made me chuckle.

@Big Joanie --I do know most seafood is frozen on the ship---and if I could--I would buy shrimp fresh like you did, any day of the week---too bad that you can't do that anymore.
