Frosting a cake upside down.

I was watching the Spring Baking Challenge on Food Network and one of the contestants told Duff about frosting the cake layers upside down for a smooth top and sharp sides and edges. I went on You Tube and searched for this. I found some videos and watched how to do it.  It looked so nice.

Re: Frosting a cake upside down.

You need to be sure the top of the top upside-down layer is even enough to sit flat before you turn it up on the bottom layer.

Just a note on the process!

I've always done it this way.  My grandmother taught me to back.  For some reason, they are always level and come out nicely!

I was taught to do it this way.  I never heard of anyone doing the top.  Funny how we cling to what our Mom told us.

My mother taught me the upside down way, too,   I've always iced like that.

While visiting friends on the Main Line near Frazier ( QVC Outlet area ), was taken to the Dixie Picnic Lunch restaurant.  Their deserts are wonderful, especially the iced “ upside down “ cupcakes in a multitude of flavors.

If you go, save room for or take a cooler for their Tres Leches squares!

I learned watching Mom do it in the 60's and I just thought it was the way of all.  Never did it another way.

I thought it was funny when Duff said that he had learned a new trick from the show.   Thanked him.  My mom never frosted her cakes like this so I was intrigued.  Now, not intrigued enough to go to my kitchen and whip up a cake LOL.

Re: Frosting a cake upside down.

I'm too lazy to make a cake with layers. LOL!!!

I always use a 13 x 9 pan.

I would have to buy new cake pans first if I ever do make one.
