Re: Forever in search of the perfect chocolate cake batter recipe.

My trucker daughter is home for a few days, so I made the Hershey's chocolate cake, using fresh coffee instead of the boiling water.   The cake is very good, and nearly gone, but I have already "made note to self" to try this chocolate cake with a white frosting next time.

@RedTop  I have a recipe for Twinkie Filling somewhere. I think keeping the chocolate frosting on the exterior, with the filling between layers, would be really good. Would you be interested in it for 'next time'?

I made the Hershey chocolate cake today.  It looks scrumptious.

The only change I made to the recipe was adding a teaspoon of instant espresso coffee.

Thanks for all the recipes and suggestions.  This is the piece I cut for my husband, he said, "That's too big a piece" and then he ate every bite. Unfortunately, I can't eat chocolate, so I can't help him.

@lolakimono - thanks for encouraging me to bake it today.

@RedTop, when we were growing up and my mom made this cake, she always frosted it w/ vanilla frosting!  Smiley Happy

@house_cat It's really good isn't it? DH made it for my Birthday. Oh sorry I guess you said you cannot eat chocolate. I cannot live without it.

I always forget to use my expresso powder when baking chocolate goodies.

@Nightowlz

I had to look twice at your post!

I awoke this morning to find mine cut in exactly the same way!

I thought you had posted my cake!

It must be good because first DH objected to the big piece I cut for him, but sometime after I went to bed he chipped away at it a bit more... just sayin'.

@CareBears

Thanks, I love them too!  They belonged to my great aunt , who was more like a grandma to me.  I'd always thought they were very old, but she bought them in the 1960s.... that's pretty old now, but when I was a kid and thought they were old they were actually quite new.

As for the cake, it's sitting in the kitchen and I can swear I hear it calling to me.

@house_cat I can hear your cake calling out my name and I am not even your neighbor, LOL!
