For Those That Like Oyster Stew :)

If you don't like oysters, fine.  Many people do and may find this information helpful!

Last year Fresh Market had very nice 16 oz jars of fresh oysters.  Our grocery store's oysters had gotten horrible!  The oyster stew had to be thrown out!

Last year, I saw jars of beautiful fresh oysters at FM just before Thanksgiving.

I asked the FM meat manager if I could freeze oysters and he said yes, "just thaw in the refrigerator" which I did!

The oyster stew was wonderful with no change in texture or flavor!!!

I just got oysters today.  Winter, here I come!!!Smiley Happy

All I did was empty the jars of oysters in a freezer safe container.

Crazy about oysters...raw, fried, frittered and or in stew and it's interesting you mention you got yours today.  Well, I live near the chesapeake bay and got a call from a friend of mine whose brother tonges for oysters. She said come get them right off the boat. I told her I will wait a few hours until you guys shuck and  jar them.  Got three pints. Making my oyster stew tomorrow...love it too.  I have never purchased oysters or crabmeat from a store and am grateful I can get it fresh caught that day.  I sampled a raw one and oh my are they good...nice and tender, fresh flavor.   Will make a delicious stew.

Yeah @tiny 2 we think so!  MD has some of the best seafood and ways to prepare it.

Re: For Those That Like Oyster Stew :)

So are you saying the oysters were fresh shucked by the store, or very close by?

Do you know the origin?

I live on the Gulf & all local fresh oysters can be purchased in the shell. I don't do shells.  I'll have to check out fresh in a jar, thanks for the  information.

@bmorechick

You are so lucky, My family loves oyster stew on Christmas Eve. I could eat it more frequently, but it's expensive where I live. We hardly can find fresh oysters anymore. It makes me hungry for them just talking about it.

You are lucky!  I can only get decent oysters here at Thanksgiving at Fresh Market.  I'm in the Appalachian Mountains!

Where are you?Smiley Happy

@ECBG   Pennsylvania...close to Harrisburg for reference.

We have fresh fish and seafood markets all year around.  We can only get oysters in the ' ber" months.  October, November and December.
