Foodsaver

I just bought QVC's Foodsaver and I'm not clear on how to use it for other than freezing food. For example, if I put a raw hamburger patty in the foodsaver bag, will it last longer in the fridge? I don't like to freeze ground beef and would love to be able to keep some for more than two days. Do you use it just for freezing food?
