Yes, I've been doing that for years. I recently heard the vendor say you could thaw, in the plastic bag it's is, in cold water for 20 minutes. That works too if you don't remember to take it,out the day before. Both worked well and are safe. The vendor also said you can take from freezer and remove plastic bag it's in before putting in the fridge to defrost.

Thanks so much , i am paranoid about food safety , and wanted to make sure about leaving in bag.

For me, I would go that route. Not a fan of hot water defrosting.

@MW in Iowa I have always read to take the fish out of the plastic and put it in a tupperware to defrost. Never defrost in the plastic as it can cause bacteria.
I believe it says to take it out on the back of the bag too.

@MW in Iowa Also I do not rinse before baking. You do not have to do that.

I agree with @nada54
It actually says on the wrapping to remove it before defrosting.
I never noticed it til board posters pointed that out.
I do remove wrapping and just defrost on a plate...never had a problem even 24 hrs later.
I also do not rinse @MW in Iowa

@Still Raining. You're so right, never use hot water, always cold.
