Eggnog Cake

1/2 cup butter

1 1/3 cups sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon rum flavoring

3 cups flour

2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups eggnog

2 tablespoons water

FROSTING:

3 tablespoons eggnog

2 tablespoons light corn syrup

1/2 teaspoon rum flavoring

2 3/4 cups powdered sugar

Combine butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in vanilla and 1 teaspoon rum flavoring. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Add alternately to creamed mixture with 1 1/2 cups eggnog and water. Pour into a well greased and floured 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 350* 50-55 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack.

FROSTING: Combine 3 tablespoons eggnog, corn syrup and flavoring. Gradually add powdered sugar. Beat til spreading consistency. Frost cake. Add red and green cherries on the top if desired.
