I'm hoping someone has an easy baked apple side dish to be served as an accompaniment to ham  at a buffet dinner. I'd like it to be good either hot or room temperature. I'll be serving around 40 people, both adults and children. I got the idea from the Honey baked ham store, but their apples are too expensive for a crowd.Thanks for any help you can provide.

It's Fall and apple season......you should be able to find reasonable prices.  If you have road side farmer stands in your area.........check them out.

I like the "Simple Baked Apples" recipe at Allrecipes.  It calls for sliced apples and can be made in a slow cooker.

IMO  a full apple is too much to serve with a big full dinner.  I'd consider sliced apples baked with a sauce or syrup.

How about an apple bread pudding?  It could be put together the day before, would be easy to serve and would smell wonderful!

That's a lot of people to serve and they would be hard for children to cut and eat. I would make applesauce instead. 

Cracker Barrel has delicious jars of apples but they're over $5. Per jar.

Also check out recipes online for stewed fruit compotes.  That's what my mom always served with ham.

My simple apple dish starts with dicing or cubing apples (I use honey crisp), sautéing in butter, brown sugar and cinnamon for about 15 - 20 minutes. Then chill before serving. The apples are softened and the sauce is yummy. We have with ham and/or sometimes as dessert with vanilla ice cream.

for us I used to just core a Granny Smith apple. add some butter,  brown sugar and cinnamon     roast until soft
