Being my husband shouldn't have much salt, and the tomato soups you buy have a lot of sodium, I have to make it homemade and I want a good but easy recipe, please?
Planning on making it tonight with grilled cheese.

I forgot to mention I have the large sizes of tomato sauce with no salt, that I want to use for the soup.

I make a super easy cream of tomato soup using canned tomato sauce.
I use the 8 oz can for 1 serving. Dilute sauce with an equal amount of milk. I usually have 1% or 2% around. Soup will be thin so add 1 tsp. flour to cold soup before heating and it will have more substance. It is more appetizing this way.
Add a bit of sugar to make it more like Campbell's if you wish. Start with 1/4 tsp. and add more if necessary. I use between 1/4 and 1/2 teaspoon.
It's good in a pinch. You might need to add a dash of salt if your is too bland as you said it was salt-free. Good luck.

The idea of cream cheese, heavy cream in making home made tomato soup ,just does not appeal to me.

Hi @gloriajean. Back in the day, my friend made it all the time.
She sauteed some onion, added chicken broth & simmered it for a bit, then poured in a big can of tomato sauce. Salt & pepper. It was yummy!
Whether or not you add cream is up to you, but she never did.

Not all tomato soups have a lot of sodium. Actually, there are many soups with low sodium. Read the labels.

That sounds delicious and since I'm the only one in the household that eats tomato soup the recipe can easily be adjusted to size.
Yum can't wait to try it and will probably add some herbs too ![]()
