I had a tub of butter, but wanted to use my butter dish. So I put two globs of softened butter in plastic wrap and molded it with my fingers into the size and shape I needed. Like doing compound butter but quicker since no seasonings involved. Only took a few minutes.
I'm happy I can use my butter dish.

Yes. Once I finished shaping it, I put it back in the fridge and it hardened up and kept its shape just like a regular stick of butter.
I only let it get soft enough to be pliable, not mushy. Think play dough.
