I've been making Sloppy Joes the same way for years and they're very tasty.
First, brown the ground beef. Drain any excess oil. Then add ketchup and a little sweet pickle relish. Heat and serve (on buns or bread).
We don't have them often, but when we do they're delish! I've seen recipes with many more ingredients, but we like them this easy way!

@spent2much That sounds really good & easy to make.
I love Sloppy Joes every now & then.

Back in the days before Manwich, my mother made them by frying and draining the hamburger and mixing in a can of undiluted tomato soup. Seems like they tasted good....but it's been a long time!

I use ketchup, worchester sauce, yellow mustard, sugar, vinegar, along with the onion and groundbeef.

@Peaches McPhee We used brown sugar as I remember or if we didn't have that a tiny bit of molasses! Maple syrup would be good. It was a tiny bit and just tamed the tart elements to make sweet and sour.

@spent2much You brought back good memories and made me want one! It was a big deal in our house! I am going to try that!

Good memories is right! I think I should pull out my mother's homemade recipe.* I think it included Chili Sauce. Homemade Sloppy Joe's coming up!
* looked it up....it did include chili sauce along with can of tomato soup, onion, ground beef, celery and green pepper...salt and pepper....simmer 1 hour or longer....

Always made Sloppy Joes with just browned hamburger and Heinz catsup. Cooking the catsup sweetens it. Kids, and the kid's mom, loved it. Still make them occasionally!
These were better than Manwich.

@Zhills your reply made me think back to my mom making sauerkraut. She would put it in a pan and saute it up with ketchup. She always said cooking it that way sweetened it, and it was so good. Such a good memory ![]()

Sounds delicious, what is the ratio ketchup to relish? I will have to try this.
