I've heard of Dump Cakes forever, and have enjoyed the ones I've tasted in the past. But the Dump Dinners book sounds like something from the Honey Boo Boo tv show and my stomach is rolling just thinking about it! It's probably just crock pot recipes but all I can picture is Honey Boo Boo's mom June using her hands to smush up a lot of raw ingredients with a big jar of mayonnaise and then cooking it! That one's not for me!

Hahaha! Yikes! {#emotions_dlg.scared}

""dump cakes"" aren't that unusual in my area. Just quick and easy. This one was really tasty

Re: Dump Cakes and Dump Meals

My two cents' worth (and it's worth every penny), I, too, wouldn't consider dump cakes because of the name. But a funny thing happened to me, a lady brought a cake to a luncheon and we all raved about it. I asked for the recipe; she gave it to me. It wasn't called dump cake, but that is what it was. I have since made a couple of them. However, if you don't like using cake mix, and a whole stick of butter, plus canned fruit, don't consider it. I actually prefer baking from scratch but I don't bake often because we don't need it.

As for the dump meals, there are all kinds of them. I remember the gal who used to be Wolfgang's sidekick on the 'other' show used to show dump type recipes, one in particular was just pasta, pasta sauce, and I think frozen ground beef cooked in a pressure cooker.

So, 'what's in a name?' sometimes can be surprising. A lot of the 'quick' recipes rely on a lot of processed ingredients, and that is the thing I try to avoid. But that quick cake recipe is nice to have under your belt on certain occasions.

As another poster wrote in different words, 'different strokes for different folks'.

Most crock pot meals you can throw anything in, it comes out fine. My experience with dump cakes is that they are okay they are not fine baked goods. No need to buy cookbooks so many of the recipes can be found when you google them.

I think some of the Bisquick meals could be called dump meals. I make the quick bisquick quiches and they are pretty much dump.

Re: Dump Cakes and Dump Meals

I've seen the Dump Cake book at Walgreen's for $9.99. The same one shown on the infomercial, minus of course the other book & the pan & whatever else comes with it.

Personally, if something appealed to me I wouldn't care what it was called. The word "dump" has lots of meanings, and isn't a turn-off to me. As someone said above, it's just a word.

OP, if you're interested you should probably try to find it locally. Not only would it be cheaper, but you could look thru it and see if it's what you expected it to be. And then of course no waiting for it to arrive!

Re: Dump Cakes and Dump Meals

Yes, you can indeed find dump cake recipes online, and I, for one, love dump cake of all kinds. In general, I bake from scratch, but I have never had a dump cake I didn't like. With the holidays upon us, these are great for unexpected company, or groups like church socials. I'm curious about the dump meals, but I don't like cooking with canned stuff-although. I do indeed keep a well stocked pantry that includes canned goods, but I am not a fan of canned soup. I don't think I would use too many recipes from the dump meals book. Poodlepet
