@BeccaLou Thanks for your response. Gee, I had no idea that bloody eggs were a common thing. As I said, it only happened to me one time! I can't imagine using one that had blood in it. Your comment about the cooking show using such eggs made me gag. LOL

@Imaoldhippie Good advice from your mom! I always crack my eggs in a separate container too. Not because the egg could be bloody, but because I'm not that good at it and often get shell in with the egg. But for whatever reason, it's a good idea to do this.

@Citrine1.....................Im the same way, more times than not I get a piece of shell when I crack the eggs. Especially now since I have arthritis in my knuckles and thumbs.

(I had a comment about the blood that sometimes can be found in an egg so please skip over if you don't want to read) I have heard that may happen in a egg that has been fertilized. I never had that problem as I only had chickens, no roosters. You don't need a rooster to get eggs from chickens. 🐣

I have chickens and often get double yolks. If a recipe I'm making calls for 2 eggs, even though I have a double yolker I still use 2 eggs and the recipes are always good. Hope this helps. My little chick girlies can lay some jumbo eggs for me.

i usually buy JUMBO eggs and there are often double yokes. i also consider it "lucky" and also YUMMY!
i use a double yoke egg as i would single yoke egg and it has never made a difference in the recipe.

Blood or meat spots, occasionally found on an egg yolk, are merely an error on the part of the hen. They do not indicate a fertilized egg but, instead, are caused by the rupture of a blood vessel during formation. ... Both chemically and nutritionally, eggs with blood spots are fit to eat.

@sunshine45......................no thanks I will toss any blood stained egg.

Me too! It doesn't matter if you CAN eat them, why would anyone want to eat them?
