Re: Does anyone need new shoes or an army blanket?

Oh, how I hate when things like this happen. Just know it happens to all of us one time or another.

My mother had one of these:

@GoneButNotForgotten  I agree that a beef roast can be a problem. I don't know how my mom always seemed to make a great pot roast. If I were you, I would take a look at the suggestions. For me, I'd dice it and put it into a minestrone soup with plenty of fresh veggies.

Lately, I use chuck roast and braise for hours with savory veggies, some tomatoes and maybe wine.

We don't have X-ray eyes, and you can't tell if a hunk of nice looking beef is really a piece of old  steer hide.     It happens to all of us...

@Kachina624   I think that is the "Ray Barone Method".

If you prove ineptness at something, you

never have to worry about having to do that

or anyone expecting you to, ever again.

(If you ever watched Everybody Loves Raymond)

I wish I knew about that a long time ago. Too

late now. Smiley Sad  I have been doing it all for over 50

years and now it is just taken for granted.

Re: Does anyone need new shoes or an army blanket?

@GoneButNotForgotten   Sorry about what happened to your roast. In my post responding to Kachina, I didn't mean to offend you by implying that you are inept. I'm sure most of us have had our kitchen disasters at least one time.

I was responding to her joke about finding a way to escape the kitchen. If you ever watched Everybody Loves Raymond, he always got out of doing things that his wife wanted or expected,

by feigning ineptness.

He figured that she would never asked him again if he messed up. His character was such an immature excuse for a husband

and lying all the time to her.

I had a husband like that once, but it wasn't funny, like a sitcom.

I am not a cook and I didn't know any better so I tried to cook a brisket as you would a roast.  I didn't know they were different,  Looked like a roast to me in the butcher case.  That was a disaster to attempt to eat.  Even the dog wouldnt eat it.

One of the reasons DH requests I stay out of the kitchen.  Suits me fine.

@KathyM23

Please don't be so hard on yourself.  Most cooks have had at least one disaster at some point.  We were all beginners.

Let All Recipes and Recipes dot com be your friend.  There are many examples on youtube as well; look up "how to prepare a brisket" and turn this into a learning experience.

Re: Does anyone need new shoes or an army blanket?

@ECBG   If I learned how to do it I would have to do it and I don't want to.  Works out for me as DH is a good and willing cook.  All I want to do with the kitchen is decorate it and eat in it.

I will look up Receipes dot com tho to get some ideas for new things for DH to cook.  He does like to experiment and try new things.

I still remember the underside of a chicken that was wrapped breast up.  That was enough to kill any desire (none) that i liked cooking.  The only food I like to deal with is the already cooked.

I did offer to help clean up the kitchen after dinner, but DH is a neat and orderly cook and there virtually was no clean up.

I know you were a Home Ec teacher.  I was an honor student in school and had one bad grade in a subject ever.  That was Home Ec and I got an "Incomplete".  Should have gotten a "Failed" but settled for the "Incomplete"
