Does Anyone Freeze Whole Milk In Portions?

I rarely have a carton of milk on hand as I only use for baking/cooking.

Question:  What is the best way to freeze whole milk and thaw to use in recipes?

I usually need 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/3 cup etc.  Any helpful hints would be appreciated.

Re: Does Anyone Freeze Whole Milk In Portions?

I don't freeze milk any more, but I used to.

 The best way for me was to put the milk into small freezer bags, either disposable or reusable silicone and  freeze them flat, then store stacked in the freezer after labeling them.

Thaw by placeing in the refrigerator, or run bag under cold water.

You can also look at freezing breast milk for some ideas.  Same concept, different animal.

I bought a box of breast milk storage bags to freeze milk and other liquids.  The measurement markings are right on the bag. I just defrost in the refrigerator.

@Sunshine Kate

Since you only need rather small portions, I use 3 or 5 oz. plastic cups to freeze my marinara sauce for meatball sandwiches.  Measure your baking needs into three plastic cups then permanent marker the measurement you need on the outside of the plastic cup ( designate the amount too ! )

You can reuse the plastic drinking cups or recycle.  If you do a lot of baking, you may want to remove the contents of similar measurements and store in a marked ziplock bag.

Small cans of evaporated milk are great for baking.  Use as is or dilute with water.

@Desertdi.  I keep evaporated milk on hand for some things and always keep a quart of shelf stable milk in the pantry for cooking emergencies.  It tastes exactly like fresh milk.  I also use powdered milk.  I don't have freezer space for frozen milk.

I only buy unsweetened almond milk. I use it in recipes that call for milk. Haven't had any issues except making pudding. It didn't thicken.

Pour milk in ice cube trays by measurement so you know how many you need for 1/4 cup etc. You can store the milk cubes in a ziplock bag.
