I got together with both my kids for dinner out last night--found a little hole in the wall place, nothing fancy, very plain, food served in styrofoam take home boxes-- but boy was the food good!! Was Chinese food, which I can take or leave--but the food was fresh and not greasy or over spiced and beautifully prepared--had an old time egg foo young with shrimp----haven't seen that dish in ages. So good and lots of it---the others dishes were just as good and very reasonably priced-----nice surprise!!!

The "hole in the wall" places to eat have some of the best food.  My husband found a hot dog place.  So small, a counter and a couple of seats.  Very little parking.  Only open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  closed Mondays and weekends and all holidays.  Line is always out the door.

I love Chinese food and shrimp egg foo young is one of my faves!

A Hole in the Wall  or locally owned mom & pop restaurant is my favorite type as long as they are clean and good.  Better yet, is when they are an ethnic restaurant.

I like going to the local diners. Can't beat them for good food. Don't like fancy food.

You brought back some good memories of when we used to go down to international district in Seattle for really food Chinese food. It's been YEARS since we have gone down there. I used to love getting egg foo young because I liked the savory gravy they served with it. We just don't get to that part of Seatttle anymore.

Years ago, we used to eat at a bowling alley, they didn't skimp on the portions and it was inexpensive.

When our sons were growing up,  there was a wonderful oriental restaurant near us.  She got her veggies at the Farmers Market.   She would get snow peas for me and make beef and snow peas for me.

Sounds good @wagirl.  Are you on the eastside in western WA?
