Decadent Coffee Blonde Brownies

1 lb. dark brown sugar
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter
2 Tablespoons strong instand coffee powder
1 Tablespoon hot water
2 eggs
2 Tablespoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup broken pecan pieces (optional)
1 cup semi sweet chocolate morsels (i use bittersweet chips)
1 cup Heath bar bits (optional)

1. Heat the brown sugar and butter in a medium size saucepan over medium heat until the butter melts. Dissolve the coffee in the hot water and stir into the mixture. Let cool to room temp.
2. Preheat oven to 350; butter a 9x12 baking pan.
3. When the butter/sugar mixture is cool, beat in the eggs and vanilla with a hand mixer til incorporated well.
4. Combine flour, baking powder and salt together. Gradually add blended powders to mixture w/a wooden sppon. Stir in nuts, chocolate morsels and Heath bits.
5. Spread mixture evenly in buttered pan and bake at 350 25-30 minutes. Do not overbake.
6. Cool completely and cut into 2" squares.

Note: these are really sweet and decadent...enjoy!!
