     Italy has a * PASTA PROBLEM! *

"As of right now, pasta inflation is causing Italians to spend an extra $27.60 per year on their beloved pantry staple.

Italians consume more pasta than any other country, averaging about 51 pounds of pasta per year, so rising costs for this dietary staple are hitting Italy particularly hard."

"Italy's Government Calls Emergency Meeting Over Pasta Crisis"

                  (Ref:   TastingTable.   )

"What exactly constitutes a pasta crisis? Well, in Italy, the unofficial capital of pasta, it has less to do with shortages and more to do with grossly inflated pasta prices.

Across the board, national inflation has hiked up grocery product prices by 8%, but pasta's inflation rate is double that. According to Reuters, Italy's pasta price inflation hit a staggering 17.5% in March. As of right now, pasta inflation is causing Italians to spend an extra $27.60 per year on their beloved pantry staple. Italians consume more pasta than any other country, averaging about 51 pounds of pasta per year, so rising costs for this dietary staple are hitting Italy particularly hard. In response, Industry Minister Adolfo Urso has called for an emergency meeting on May 11 in order to better understand and, hopefully, reduce this price spike."

@JoyFilled Warrior I heard this on the radio this morning.  The terrible thing about the inflated rate for pasta is that the wheat flour they make pasta out of has actually come down in price.

$27.60 a YEAR? They consider 53 cents a week to be a catastrophe?

@NigelSparkles You beat me to it. I was just calculating the weekly cost. I don't think that is much to complain about. Seriously, in my opinion, this is not a catastrophe. So many other essential items have increased at a much higher rate.

How awful.  That's robbery. We must help. I think we should start collecting donations. Not!

And to think someone dumped all that pasta in the woods a few weeks ago!
