I am going to make CC frosting, but wonder how long it will keep in the fridge. That way I can make it ahead and not wait til the day I make the cake.

Thanks, ladies.

I would give it two days, if at all.

The cream cheese and butter need to soften back to room temp.

I'm more tempted to bake the cake and freeze then thaw and use freshly made frosting. It comes together so quick.

Cream cheese frosting is good up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator, much longer in the freezer.

Thee days is the max.  I would use it soon to extend what you are making.

I just happened to have some cream cheese frosting left over from a cake I made for my nephew's birthday the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I stored it in a Lock and Lock cereal bowl thinking I might find a use for it. I just went to check it for you, but DH tossed it yesterday. He said it was still firm and I might have been able to use it once it came down to room temperature. Sooo, while I wouldn't recommend storing it for a prolonged period of time, you're probably safe refrigerating it for a few days or so.

Though I'm not a chef, I do bake from scratch and cook a lot because I love it.  Take it from me, don't make your frosting ahead of time.  It only takes 10 minutes to make it.  You can measure your ingredients the night before.  Cream cheese frosting is just butter, cream cheese, powdered surger and vanilla.  Noting compares to freshly made frosting.

Make the cake first and the frosting last.
