Re: Corned Beef & Cabbage?

[ Edited ]

I don't like it.  I've cooked it.  My husband likes it.  I much prefer the brisket cut.  The corned beef you get in the Deli!  Now that's corned beef.  Best sandwich I ever ate was at the Carnegie in Manhattan.  Corned beef out of this world.  Closed now because of a divorce!  That expensive.  This was called the Wood Allen.  I ate it on a bus going home from New York with my sister.

I bake mine, too, @JeanLouiseFinch, and top it with a spicy mustard.  I sautée thinly sliced cabbage in some butter and add some cream cheese and dried dill.

@tansy

I saute thin sliced cabbage also!  No one ever ate the boiled leaves, except Mom...all the rest in the trash.

I was sick of wasting it just for 'tradition' LOL

Now that I saute it thinly shreadded in a little bacon grease, with onions, shredded carrots and caraway seeds....now the entire dish is gone.

I have never added cream cheese though....tell me more!

I am assuming you are melting it into the cabbage?  How much are you using?

@mac116

@walker

I am so glad you liked the oven method!  So nice of you to post back....

I can't take the credit though....it was posted by @Mothertrucker   I think ....a long time ago on these boards.

Too bad CB are so pricey non St. Patty's time....I'd make it year round!

I was surprised how much my family loved the glaze on top.

Normally, they are either ketchup, BBQ or mustard only!
