Want to make spaghetti with sauce and cook a couple eggs on top. My skillet has a cover so I figred Id just put the raw egg over the pasta, cover and cook that way.

But, have no idea as to timing it.  Can you help?

TIA

I would recommend cooking the egg in a skillet and then putting it on top of the spaghetti. The raw egg white would slide into the spaghetti so seems it would be difficult to know when it is safely cooked. JMO. I am not a fan of topping anything with raw eggs unless they are at least cooked enough for the white to be cooked enough to hold its shape

@eddyandme How do you like your eggs cooked?  IF you do not them with a slightly runny yolk, pre-cooking might be the best option.

However, me being the person who likes to try things, since it's only eggs and pasta--why not try a test run some time (when you have sandwich fixin's handy! Woman Wink) in a small skillet and try cooking one nested in the pasta and one cooked on the side and compare.

Time?  As a friend once told me "Ya gotta cooker 'er til she gives up!"  Just lift the lid occasionally and see how done the egg is!  Sounds really good to me.  A soft cooked yolk broken on that hot pasta when you serve it!  YUM!  Woman Very Happy

P.S.  The fresher the eggs are and good quality, the better they should hold together.  Old eggs spread out and that' wouldn't be good.

Thanx @Sooner .

I do like the yolk a little sunny! As you recommend, I'll just keep and eye on it.  Got a glass lid so won't be a problem.

I do have freshly bought eggs - Egglands Best!  I'm getting hungry now - looks like and early lunch day.

i make a persian omelet with lots of tomatoes and onions and other spices. it is very similar to shakshuka or eggs in purgatory.

i just make the eggs by very carefully placing them on top of the tomato mixture and let it cook to my desired doneness. you will easily be able to see when the eggs are cooked, especially if you are using a lower and wider skillet. i personally like mine yellow and runny.

if you like yours more well done, then definitely use a glass top lid.

not sure i have ever seen fried eggs on top of spaghetti with sauce?

It was YUMMY!  @Sooner , I'm not a cook so proves it was easy peasy!  I had made a sauce:  pasta sauce, cream cheese, sour cream and various spices.  Had frozen the leftover sauce.  Heated in and tossed in some thinly-sliced zucchini while nuking some spaghetti for 7 min.  Then tossed the pasta with some of the pasta water into the skillet with the heated stuff and immediately dropped in two eggs. Covered pan and left them in there between 3-4min (they came out sticky, between hard and soft) basically, I steamed the eggs.

It was a very filling lunch.  My furbaby Eddy devoured it.  It was a good cover for his meds; and, I really enjoyed this and will make again.  It's a cheap lunch, but I bet if you dress it up with chopped basil or something will look like you fussed!

Please let me know if you like it.  -
