Looking for something to bring as a dessert to son's house for Christmas Dinner. Want something easy as I am not a great baker(also no imagination). Don't want to bring apple crisp. Any suggestions?

@arubakathy: If your family likes cheesecake, here's an easy recipe:

Philadelphia 3-Step Cheesecake

2 pkgs (8 oz each) Philadelphia brand cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

2 eggs

1 ready-to-use graham cracker crust (6 oz)

1.  Heat oven to 325 degrees

2.  Beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla with mixer until   blended.  Add eggs, beat until just blended.

3.  Pour mixture into crust

4.  Bake 40 minutes or until center is almost set. Cool. Refrigerate 3 hours before serving.

It's quick, easy and delicious. You can always top cheesecake with a fruit topping if you wish.

@arubakathy

I have made this many times - no baking involved

this is Ina's recipe for Mocha Cake

I have subbed italian lady fingers for the chocolate chip cookies so it is more like tiramisu

Re: Christmas dinner Dessert

I like this "Pumpkin Bread Pudding" from a King Arthur's Cookbook.  I serve it warm with vanilla ice cream and/or whipped cream:

1 15 oz can pumpkin puree

6 eggs

2 cups half & half

1 cup milk

3/4 cup sugar

1/3 cup brown sugar

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp ginger

1/4 tsp ground cloves

1/4 tsp nutmeg

2 tsp vanilla

8 cups bread ( I buy brioche when I can) cut into 3/4" cubes

Stir together everything but bread in big bowl.  Place bread in greased 9X13" pan in single layer.  Pour liquid mixture over bread and let sit at room temperature for 1/2 hour.  Stir mixture and bake in 350 degree oven until beginning to brown, 40-50 minutes.

Bake a pan of brownies, cool, cut into cubes.   Layer in a bowl with cherry pie filling, and cool whip.

The FILLING for Millionare pie is fantastic spooned over pound cake slices, which I would chose lemon.

You could also add a little coconut and sprinkle a little on each finished serving.

                                   Millionaire Pie

1 can crushed pineapple well drained

1 small can well drained mandarin orange, cut in half

½ C of halved green grapes

½ C chopped pecans

6 drained cherries with stems, or extra chopped pecans to garnish.

1/3 C coconut (optional)

Juice of 1 fresh lemon

1 can sweetened condensed milk like Eaglebrand.

1 8oz cool whip, thawed.

In large bowl mix lemon juice with sweetened condensed milk.

Mix in pineapple, mandarin oranges, grape halves, and chopped pecans.

Gently fold in thawed cool whip.

Pour into graham cracker crust.

Cover.  Chill for at least 5-6 hours.

Garnish before serving.

I've done this several times and it's always a huge hit.  I use whipped cream but Cool Whip certainly works and is easy.

Re: Christmas dinner Dessert

Get a package of phyllo mini dessert cups and a jar of good quality lemon curd (both are available at most supermarkets). Either make whipped cream or buy a can of real whipped cream. Fill the cups with a spoonful of the lemon curd and place on a nice serving dish. Top with whipped cream just before serving. You could also substitute good quality cherry or apple pie filling for the lemon curd.

Also, most supermarkets now carry frozen cream puffs that are very good. They're filled with real whipped cream and are habit-forming. Follow the directions on the box for defrosting them, arrange on a serving dish and sift some powdered sugar over them right before serving. If you're feeling adventurous, warm some hot fudge sauce and drizzle over them shortly before serving.
