This was the one cookie than seemed very special to our family every Christmas. None of our friends made this one, even though I am sure everyone has this recipe in some form or another! I don't even know what Jan Hagel means but it is very easy and delicious with a cup of tea! The green and red sprinkled sugar on top makes it look very festive on a cookie platter.

Christmas Jan Hagels

Preheat oven to 350

Mix with mixer: 1 cup butter (no subs)

1 cup sugar

1 egg yolk (save the egg white)

Add by hand: 2 cups flour

1 t cinnamon

Press into lightly greased 13 x 9 pan.

Beat egg white w/ 1 T water till frothy. Brush on top and sprinkle with chopped nuts (your choice), PRESS DOWN LIGHTLY. Then sprinkle green and red sugar decor on top.

Bake 20-25 min. till lightly golden. When cooled, cut into bars.
