My mom made this often when I was a child..I thought it was magic
1 1/4 cups cake flour
3/4 cups sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
2 to 3 tsp cinnamon optional
1 square unsweetened chocolate..or bittersweet
2 tbs butter
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cups chopped nuts
Topping
2tbs cocoa
1/2 cup brown sugar,packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 Cup boiling water
Whipping cream
preheat 350* 8 or 9 in round or square cake pan..needs to be at least 3/4 in deep.
sift flour with the 3 next ingredients
Melt chocolate..remove from heat and stir in milk and vanilla until smooth, then add all at once to dry ingredients. Beat thoroughly. Stir in nuts. Turn into non stick or buttered pan.
Make topping..Blend cocoa and sugars. Sprinkle over batter, then pour boiling water over top.
Bake 45 to 50 minutes
Dessert separates into a rich cake on top and a creamy sauce underneath...Serve with whipped cream.
