JJM, sounds like a winner. I'll be trying these soon. Thanks for posting the recipe.

Re: Chocolate Chunk Cherry Scones!!

Thinking ahead....We'll be traveling this winter to visit family - just a couple hours away by car.  Do you think this could be a successful make ahead dough/batter where I could make it at home and bake it a day or two later?

Or, would it be better for me to completely make them ahead and freeze them, then let them thaw overnight and stick them in the oven in the morning for a minute to warm them up?

The only thing I would be concerned is using the baking powder and then refrigerating it -- I wonder if the baking powder would start to react with the flour.

You may want to add all ingredients except the baking powder and then when its time to make it, add it then.

These scones stay pretty fresh if wrapped in plastic wrap or even maybe using a tin to keep them from going stale.

I use the dried cherries found in the canned fruit/baking aisle of the supermarket. There is one brand Mariani that I use and its available here where I live. I know some items are regional so if you can find those, they are great.

Thanks, I'll probably just make them in advance, wrap them, and transport them in a Lock-N-Lock.

Re: Chocolate Chunk Cherry Scones!!

"Do you have a cookie sheet? A biscuit cutter? You can make your own scones (round shape vs the triangle shaped of the pan I mentioned in previous post) by putting them on a greased cookie sheet."

Oh thank you, how very helpful.  I must have missed the previous post.  Greased cookie sheets I have!!
