I am going out on a limb here and stating that I have never been a big fan of chocolate chip cookies. That being said, we frequently stay at Doubletree Inn when we travel and upon checking in, everyone is handed this huge, warm chocolate chip cookie. I don't know if it is because I am usually tired by the time we get to the hotel, or what, but that cookie is the bomb! LuvAutumn, posted this recipe back in June of 2011 and just let me tell you that it is the closest copycat recipe for this cookie that I have tasted. It is wonderful and I wanted to repost her recipe since many of us are getting an occasional bit of relief from the heat and are able to turn our ovens on. I hope you all enjoy it, even those of you who are like me (surely I am not the only one who doesn't care for chocolate chip cookies?!). Thanks to LuvAutumn, for sharing her "find" when she came across this recipe.
Double Tree Hotel Chocolate Chip Cookies
1/2 cup rolled oats
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1-1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp lemon juice
2 eggs
3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1-1/2 cups chopped walnuts
Directions
Grind oats in food processor or blender until fine. Combine the ground oats with flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon in a medium bowl.
Cream together the butter, sugars, vanilla and lemon juice in another medium bowl with an electric mixer. Add eggs and mix until smooth. Stir the dry mixture into the wet mixture and blend well. Add the chocolate chips and nuts and mix by hand until all ingredients are blended well.
For best results, chill the dough overnight in refrigerator before baking.
Spoon rounded 1/4 cup portions of mixture onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Place scoops about 2 inches apart. Bake at 350 for about 13-14 minutes or until they are light brown and soft in the middle.
Store in a sealed container when cool to keep soft.
Makes 20 large cookies.
