These are so chewy, and containing only 2 tbsp. of flour, it's hard to call them a cookie!

But I guess technically they are and they're unbelievably good!

They were created by a bakery that started here in Savannah in 1884 and closed for good in 1994.

The Chocolate Chewies were one of their best sellers! I know I bought & ate my share!{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Once they closed, they published a cookbook with their recipes. I wanted to share it with all of you!

Chocolate Chewies

12 oz. powdered sugar

1 1/4 oz. cocoa (use a good quality cocoa!)

2 tbsp. AP flour

3 egg whites

8 oz. chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.

Place sugar, cocoa & flour in mixing bowl and beat until well blended.

Beat in egg whites 1 at a time, scraping bowl as necessary.

Beat on high 1 minute.

Beat in pecans.

Drop by tbsp. onto sheets, leaving 2" between cookie for spreading.

Bake 1 sheet at a time for 15 minutes, turning sheet around halfway thru baking time.

Remove from oven & cool on paper.

Place cookies on paper into freezer and freeze for 1 hour.

Remove from freezer and peel paper off cookies.

Store in an airtight container.

These don't keep very long, but trust me, that won't be a problem!

Makes approx. 2 dozen

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
