Chicken Supreme

[ Edited ]

I always loved this chicken dish.  It makes it's own gravy so you'll need rice, potatoes, or noodles.

Preheat oven to 350

4 boneless chicken breasts

1 can cream of mushroom soup

1 can CREAM OF CELERY soup

1 envelope Lipton's Onion Soup Mix

(optional 1 cup fresh mushrooms)

1 c wine

Spray casserole with tightly fitting lid.

Put chicken in casserole.

Mix the three soups and pour over chicken.

Add wine.

Bake tightly covered 1 1/2 to 2 hrs.

First time I made this when DS was in high school he went in the kitchen and drank the rest of the gravy! LOL!

Any idea on how to cut down on the sodium?

Would be good if that could be done

There are recipes online for your own cream of soups so you could at least make those sodium free.

When I'm going to use soup to cook with I use Campbells.  They have low sodium soups, I believe these flavors may be.  If the Cream of celery isn't sodium free, you could use cream of chichen and add sauteed celery.  Hope that helps.

I'm a low sodium gal, too.

Were you planning to drink the gravy?   If not, just cook it in the sauce and eat just the chicken.   Even a tablespoon or two of the sauce won't be a major problem, IMO.

I use the gravy over rice, potatoes or noodles.  For Low sodium , I suggest you use the Low Sodium Onion Soup recipe I put down in this thread.  Also, Campbells has low sodium soups.  Unlike my son when he was a teen you won't be drinking the gravy (only time will tell!!!) but just using a few spoon fulls.

I can't wait to try this - buying the ingredients tomorrow and preparing it EXACTLY as you stated it.

Thank you,

We had it tonight!  The chicken cuts with a fork and the kitchen smells SO good you won't be able to stand it!

Re: Chicken Supreme

I've never had your recipe in that exact form, but I've got about six or seven  recipes that are  similar,  and all are great-tasting.  Thanks for posting yours.  It's a good platform for adding other things, too.

In addition to the dried onion soup, wine, and a can of cream of celery, mushroom or chicken soup, one could add sour cream,  rice (prepared-- or dry with water added to the casserole dish)  frozen peas, chopped celery or mushrooms, slivered almonds or cashews , swiss cheese.

Toppings can be crushed herb dressing mix, panko crumbs, crispy Chinese noodles or crushed potato chips.

I love this type of chicken dish. Thanks for reminding me to buy some chicken soon!
