Would be good if that could be done
I NEVER use that lipton soup as it is almost all salt. I use instead - worchestershire sauce - a tsp or so and some dehydrated onions that they sell where they sell spices in the grocery store and find the flavor is great without all that salt.I also almost always use broth instead of water when I cook as it gives everything a cooked all day flavor.
Not to mention all the chemicals. I use a recipe for onion soup mix almost exactly like the one ECBG posted above. It's great. I always have a large supply on hand and use it to boost flavor in lots of recipes. Love it for meatloaf too!

Used to make this - forgot about it and I'll have to make again. Dad was told to watch his salt intake and I found that there are many things you can make more sodium friendly. An example - he liked shake and bake chicken and pork - I made it using a lower sodium version found by just googling "lower sodium shake and bake spices". Basically it used all powder forms of seasonings instead of the salt versions so garlic powder, onion powder, etc. and it was much better tasting than the salt laden stuff in the stores.

I have this fabulous recipe in my oven as I type! This is my first attempt; I used Cream of Chicken & Celery soup, Baby Bella sliced mushrooms & a cup of Pinot Grigio ( what a sacrifice...lol!) I sprinkled fresh ground pepper on the thighs, spooned on the soup mixture & mushrooms, then the wine. It is tightly covered with heavy duty foil. Can't wait to try this in a couple of hours!

Thanks for posting this recipe & the one for the onion soup mix, I will NEVER buy that again LOL!!!!!
Does it really take 1-1/2 to 2 hours to cook?
I'm making it in the next day or so, I KNOW it will be a keeper!!!

******************Recipe for one envelope of low sodium onion soup mix follows
Thanks! I have it in the oven right now; I had almost all the ingredients on hand (leftover from the holidays), and then tweaked it with the rest. I used to make something like this years ago, and put water chestnuts in it. It was a way to use leftover wine when I lived in Germany. My husband will be surprised with something from the past.
And thanks for the onion soup mix substitution!
