wrote:I know you wonderful ladies have terrific, time tested chili recipes but since it's just me and I am not big on freezing a big pot of something I usually have a couple of cans of Trader Joe's chili on hand. Unfortunately I neglected my pantry and ran out. Since a trip to TJ's takes some planning now, I grabbed a can of Chili Man and Wolf brand chili (both no beans). I tried the Chili Man and it was fine (should have grabbed the one with beans maybe) but was wondering if anyone had a favorite that they would recommend.
Thanks in advance for all thoughts and opinions!
I’ve always used McCormick’s chili seasoning mix in the foil packet and it is quick and easy with just a few ingredients.
Be sure to drain the fat after browning the meat.

There are two varieties of the 'Stagg' brand that I always liked that now seem to be obsolete - or at least one looks like you can get it some places and the other one is gone entirely.
I was bummed for that to happen but then I saw that it seems Hormel has acquired the Stagg brand and I have some pretty big issues with the Hormel brand.
Oh well. I always seem to like stuff that nobody else likes so it goes obsolete. wah hehe

My go to canned chili is Chiliman w/beans. When it is on sale I stock up. It's great for chili mac.
I prefer to make my own chili using a recipe from Red Gold tomatoes. Before I retired, my place of employment had a chili cookoff every Halloween.
My chili won 1st place a couple of times.
Here is the recipe, if anyone is interested.
1 pound ground chuck, seasoned with salt and pepper
1 large onion, chopped
1 large green pepper, chopped
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa
4 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 (15.5 oz.) can Brooks "mild" chili hot beans
1 (16 oz.) can Bush's Best kidney beans, drained
1 (19.75 oz.) can Campbell's pork n beans
1 can Red Gold Petite Diced tomatoes, w/green chilies
1 can Red Gold Petite Diced tomatoes
1 can Red Gold crushed tomatoes
Brown seasoned ground chuck, onion and green pepper in large pot. Drain off fat.
Add chili powder, cocoa, sugar and salt. Stir to combine.
Add beans and tomatoes, Stir to combine.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat, simmer for 25 minutes.

Again, I just want to say thanks to everyone for taking the time to give me your recommendations as it is greatly appreciated!
Now @Sooner on the other hand has turned me into a Chili Cheese Frito pie monster . . . why did I not know about this before? YUM!

Wolfes is my hubby's favorite from a can. Must have beans and be mild.

@momtochloe Try making taco salad but use Fritos instead of Doritos or a shell! That is another easy favorite of mine

Just googled Brook's beans. Did not see a "mild" chili hot bean? Only hot or mild. Really want to try your chili but want to do it right! Can you please give me more info? Thanks!

Sorry to take so long to reply.
What I use is Brooks mild chili beans. I don't know why the word hot was in the recipe.
It probably wouldn't make that much difference if you used the hot. I just prefer a milder chili.

We actually prefer the Aldi's Chili with beans, when we are in a bind and I do not have time to make my own. 2nd choice would be the Wolf brand.
