Re: Can I Substitute Splenda For Sugar in My Baking Recipes?

dyfre...... I'm sure your friend loved your cookies, as much for your kindness for making them, as for having a nice treat. Thank you.

chickenbutt...... I was hoping I could do the same thing with my cheesecake recipe. You've given me the confidence to try. Thank you. Also, thank you for telling us that crucial information about our pets. I don't feed my cat table scraps, but I always want to know if there's anything that could possibly hurt her.

meezerpleezer......Thanks again. I will definitely check with the Splenda people for any help they can give me, and I'll be sure to add the extra extract.

ccassaday......Since I've only recently been diagnosed with diabetes I'm trying to be as good as I can. Maybe I will find that I can indulge once in awhile, but that will take some time to learn. In the meantime, I would like to try to make some good tasting, and healthier treats for all year long, too.

JeanLouiseFinch......I have been reading about the different sugar substitutes, and Stevia is definitely one I will be trying, thanks!

65andfabulous......Thank you. I will check into Truvia. I'm trying to find cookbooks, and tried and true recipes online, because I'm not that great of a baker without a recipe. I will keep in mind all your suggestions for "spicing up" the recipes.

HisElk......I'm sorry you had a bad reaction to Splenda, that's how I feel when I tried diet Coke. Certain things bother some of us differently. I'm glad Stevia worked for you, I will be trying it too. Thank you.

Newnick ame......I hope your pies turn out delicious. I'm glad the Truvia works for you. Thanks.

ID2......Thank you, that is good information to remember. I'm just beginning my journey to learn about my disease. I have a lot to learn.

Tique......thank you for posting the conversion chart, that is going to come in very handy. I've already copied and saved it. I also took a look at their baking tips. All good information to know.

lovesrecess......Thank you. That's 3 votes for Truvia. I wonder if their packaging has a conversion chart too.

AnnaB......Thank you for that information, it's good to know.

I'm trying not to use Splenda, (or any other sugar substitute in the future) very often. Certainly not on an everyday basis. I only want to use it for baking, and I don't do that very often. I'm trying to eat foods (like my oatmeal) without adding any sugar substitute, and get used to the taste of food more naturally.

Thanks again to everyone who posted, I appreciate all the help and advice I get. Smile

Re: Can I Substitute Splenda For Sugar in My Baking Recipes?

I would say no...I made a cake that I make all the time and wanted to try splenda to cut the calories, so I baked using the correct amount of splenda and the cake did not rise as usual. I called splenda and they told me not all recipes adjust properly to using splenda. If you want to use it on a regular basis I would buy a cookbook specifically for the use of spenda that has been tested.

I would like to find a true sugar substitute that bakes properly with my recipes.
