Thanks!

I always use Williams Chili Mix in the silver packet with the gravies and mixes. It was good enough for my friends in Texas for 30+years. Con carne means "with beans". Real Texans don't add beans but I've always liked them.

1 large can tomato sauce
chili powder to taste
Add some water 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup
1 to 2 teaspoons paprika
1 to 2 teaspoons salt to taste
For hot chili dd ground red pepper or pepper flakes
Ground pepper 1/2 t.
cook for 1 hr. without lid.
Add 2 cans (drained) dark kidney beans, heat again for 10 min.
Serve with grated colby cheese. You can use raw diced onion.

Just an FYI Kachina - con Carne means with MEAT, not beans...just in case someone gets confused.
Thanks for posting your recipe idea! I'm saving it also!

Brown hamburger and onion. Put everything in the crockpot and stir. After it cooks for a while, if it is too thick you can add some water to it.
I guarantee you this is the best chili ever!
Edit: If you want a lower salt version, you can use no salt tomato sauce and reduced sodium beans if desired.

@Diamond girly @JaxsMom The chili with the beans is called chili con carne despite the fact that a bean is a frijole.

Is Chili supposed to have beans in it?Texas chili does not have beans. Except, when it does. Texas chili is chili con carne - peppers with meat. But, just as popular is chili con carne y frijoles - peppers with meat and beans
You stated that con carne means "with beans", and it just doesn't. That is the issue. You didn't clarify your first statement enough, that's all. We took you literally.
