evaporated milk for sweetened condensed milk in a dessert recipe?  If so, would I have to add some extra sugar?

@eddyandme   Just googled this for you - for 5oz evap milk it indicates to add 3/4 cup sugar.

I also indicated that you can't swap condensed for evap because of the sugar.

No, you would need sweetened condensed milk...you could make your own though.  I have used this recipe.

Don't even think about it.  I've tried those swaps and it isn't worth it.  Use EVAP milk when it says and SWEETENED CONDENSED when the recipe says and save yourself some grief and trouble.

I agree, I would NOT swap.  Ingredients for any recipe plus your time are worth using the correct item called for.  Evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk are not the same and even adding sugar, I just don't think the recipe will turn out as intended.

Thank you everyone for your advice.

Think I'll just run to th store and buy the right ingredient - take the easy way out - and use the evaporated milk in my coffee!

Thanks for the recipe, @Carmie !  Gonna keep it on hand - will have to check that site out!  Only keep fat-free milk in the house don't want to take a chance on using that.

Asolutely not! Had a friend that I gave a receipe to for fudge-You know the one w/the choco chips and EBM. She used evapor. milk and told me how terrible it was. Didn't want to spend the money.
