I am not a wine drinker and am just starting.

Which type of wine is best for someone who doesn't want something real strong or over-powering.   I know Rose is nice, but wine is on sale today at my store and it's only in white or red varieties.

Any thoughts??

I would ask the people who work at the store or if there is a local vineyard you might go there instead - they usually have free tastings.  Tell them the approximate amount you want to spend so they show you wines in that range.

I find the people who work at the liquor stores are usually quite knowledgeable about wine and selections.🍷

All I can afford is at the store today and no one was there to assist me.  It's in the liquor dept of my local market.

I think I'll just get the red pinot noir.   I have a specific reason to buy it and I don't want to spend a lot of money.   I just want something that won't go down too strong so I won't get turned off by it.

My son is so proud of me because Kathy Griffin's mom drinks wine out of a box too, lol.  Anything in any shape or form in Pinot Grigio is a safe bet with anyone.  JMHO.

Just a suggestion, Gewürztraminer has kind of "spicy" taste, at least 5 years old, maybe German or French or USA, it depends on what  you're looking for - dry, sweet, etc.

There's such a huge variety, it's worthwhile to learn, go to some wine-tastings, discover what you like.  Woman Wink

Thanks.

I cannot afford wine tasting events.   I just want to drink some wine to reduce my stress and take the edge off.

Hope you enjoy the Pinot Noir.  It is one of my favorites.  You might want to try a Chardonnay.  A nice white wine.

When friends and relatives have visited, even the non-wine drinkers, wanting to try a glass, enjoy a glass of Riesling.  Chilled.  It's a white wine and not too sweet.

Yoga (or some other form of exercise) might be better for dealing with stress than alcohol, but that's JMO.

If you're determined to use wine as a stress reliever, any cheap plonk will do.  No need to spend a lot on it; decent whites are usually cheaper than reds.
