This is a good winter recipe......an old one back when you heard mostly of Burgundy wine...but you can use whatever red wine you like or have on hand.

Burgundy Stew

2 1/2 lbs. stewing beef or round steak cut in 1" cubes

2 cups sliced carrots

1 cup sliced celery

1 med/large onion, sliced

6 oz. can sliced mushrooms, drained

3 Tablespoons flour

1 Tablespoon sugar

1 Tablespoon salt

1 lb. can whole tomatoes (since diced are now available that is what I use)

1 cup burgundy wine

5-6 potatoes, sliced

Combine meat, carrots, celery, onion and mushrooms in a heavy Dutch oven. Combine flour, sugar and salt and stir into the meat mixture. Add tomatoes and wine. Cover and cook in preheated 325 degree oven for 4 hours. Last 1 1/2 hours add 5 or 6 medium sliced potatoes. Last 20 minutes add dumplings on top, optional.

bigkat ~ I am thanking you cuz my brain said bigkat and not walker!? {#emotions_dlg.confused1} I am still coming down from NYE and your great pyro stunts. My knee must be affecting my brain (or what's left of it after NYE). In any event, thank you walker for the delicious recipe! Love you all,

Dyslexic Cookie
