3/4 cup granulated sugar

1 cup flour

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

2 Tbsp cocoa

1/2 cup milk

1 tsp vanilla

2 Tbsp shortening, melted

1/2 cup chopped nuts

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cocoa. Add milk, vanilla, shortening, and nuts. Mix to combine well.

Place in well-greased 8-inch square baking pan. Spread evenly.

Mix together the following:

1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa. Sprinkle mixture over the batter.

Pour 1 3/4 cup very hot tap water over the entire batter.

Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.

*Batter will rise as it bakes making the brownie and there will be pudding on the bottom.
