Does anyone have any info./knowledge of Brown Sugar cookies we were talking about this other day and how no one makes them any more

I have to say I have never made them and do not know if I ever had one. But now I am very interested!! yum

I am finding recipes online.......overload!

Question- some have cinnamon, some have other spices ginger, etc does anyone have thoughts or memories on what is flavor profile of a brown sugar cookie? Is is a crisp cookie or chewy cookie- another difference in the recipes I am finding.

Since today is Sugar Cookie Day here is a Brown Sugar Cookie Recipe, I just ate 3 out of the oven!

Brown Sugar Cookies

1 c Crisco Shortening

1 c brown sugar

1 egg

1 t vanilla

2 c all purpose flour ( 10 oz)

1/2 t baking soda

1/4 t salt

Cream the shortening, brown sugar, egg and vanilla in a mixer till fluffy. Add the flour, baking soda and salt. Mix until combined. Use a cookie scoop to make cookies. I baked 12 at a time on a Silpat lined baking sheet pan or use an ungreased pan. Bake at 350* for 10-12 or until golden brown.

Zhillis, thank you. I really have no 'pre-conceived' thoughts as this is a new cookie for me.

The ladies were saying they remembered the cookie was like a butter cookie that had a dark brown sugar to give it a bit of a molasses-like taste. It sounded great, but no one has a recipe.

You can substitute brown sugar, all or part, for white sugar in most cookie recipes. Adjust spices to suit your taste. As long as the dough is the proper consistency, you can vary cookies as it pleases you.
